04 July 2026 95th Anniversary of the V.P. Chkalov Novosibirsk Aviation Plant On July 4th, the V.P. Chkalov Novosibirsk Aviation Plant celebrates its 95th anniversary. Back in 1931, the plant was built as a mining equipment factory, but by 1936, it was redesigned to produce aircraft. Since then, the plant has held a respectable place among Russian aircraft manufacturers. During the World War II, the plant became a reliable rear base, supplying the Soviet Air Force with fighters. The plant operated under the motto "A Regiment a Day!" and produced 25-28 aircraft per day. In 1945, the team received its first state award – the Order of Lenin. Over its long history, the Chkalov Plant manufactured both military aircraft (Yak, MiG, Su, and other) and civil airplanes. For example, the plant currently manufactures components for the Superjet passenger aircraft.
