CR929 is a long-range wide-body new generation aircraft, a joint program of OEMs from Russia and China represented by United Aircraft Corporation and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (СОМАС). It is one of the most advanced projects in the backlog of joint partnership projects of the two countries.
The aircraft will display state-of-the-art technologies of the airspace industry. Ultimate technical solutions will ensure the best performance and allow to offer significant economic benefits, as for the passengers - they will be able to enjoy the increased comfort due to the industrial design of the cabin.
UAC and COMAC have signed Memorandum of Understanding and started the joint activities whereunder related to substantiation of LRWBCA Program viability.

Government of Russia and Government of China have signed Cooperation Agreement, the purpose whereof is joint implementation of the Program for development, production, sales and aftersales of long-range wide-body aircraft and family of aircraft developed on its basis. This milestone can be considered as a formal launch of Chinese and Russian cooperation in the sphere of joint aircraft development.
CRAIC (China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Corp. Ltd.), UAC and COMAC joint venture, has been registered in Shanghai. The JV performs the function of CR929 Program operator. The areas of JV’s responsibilities include production, sale, aftersales support, marketing, business planning and program management.
Christening of aircraft in Shanghai: new generation long-range wide-body aircraft now has a name – CR929, the livery also has been presented. Letters C and R stand for participants of the project: С – China, R – Russia. CR are also the first two letters of joint Chinese-Russian venture.
General configuration of CR929 has been defined. UAC and COMAC have reached an agreement on main geometric characteristics of the aircraft: wing span and its form, fuselage length, forward and rear fuselage parts, size and form of the empennage, location of engines, landing gears and doors.
Potential customers will be offered CR929 family in three configurations: basic, stretch version and short version.
Basic version of CR929–600 with three-class layout will be able to carry 280 pax for the range of up to 12,000 km. Stretch version CR929–700 will take 320 pax on board the aircraft, its flight range is 10,000 km. Passenger capacity of short version CR929–500 is 250 pax and flight range is 14,000 km.
Design of CR929 provides for the wide usage of composite materials, 50% of airframe structure will be made of composites.
The aircraft will feature new aerodynamics solutions. CR929 wing will boast larger length and sharklet type wingtips. It will reduce wind resistance and fuel consumption, thus achieving higher environmental and economic performance in comparison with current competitors.
Reduced maintenance costs will contribute to aircraft economic efficiency as well. It is expected to use the information system to monitor airframe and all units condition. The intended purpose of such system is to enhance aircraft flight safety.
The requirements to CR929 aircraft have been developed on the basis of requirements suggested by the potential customers and on assessment of market’s perspective demands.
